Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. – Confucius

I don’t know if I completely agree with this quote. I don’t think humans intentionally make things more complicated; it may be that it is in our nature to have complicated lives.

No one wants their life to be hard to navigate, but sometimes it’s something that just happens. We can’t help it. It’s almost impossible to keep things streamlined because if we did, our lives would not be a trial or a journey. It wouldn’t have really bad relationships to learn lessons from. We wouldn’t have life changing ideas or a million thoughts to sort through. We wouldn’t even have the latest gossip about our favorite celebrity’s last exe! Because according to Confucius life is made messy by us.

Not to say life can’t be made simple. It can, and it is a lifestyle choice. We see it everyday, people decluttering their houses, giving away things they don’t need. People moving to a smaller house because they find that having a big house is not simple (what if all the cleaning, bills, and maintenance).

Yes, life can be simple to a certain extent. But throughout our lives we are interacting with so many different people and some of them turn out to be our closest friends. Those “friends” may even feel like family. Keeping up with all the relationships we’ve made and trying to forget the bad relationships inherently makes our lives complicated and I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing.

We also have our dreams and goals. In order to get to our goals we have to have motivation and grit and most of the time we are faced with failure. So yeah, our hopes and dreams make our lives complicated because we have to take the journey to get there.

What I’m trying to say is, without the elements above that I talked about our lives would be too simple; too black and white. And I don’t think that’s what life for humans was meant to be. I think life was meant to be untangled and then life will get simpler (hopefully).
